What the NoDriveCfg alarm means
The CS8 reports 'Internal error DRIVE NoDriveConfiguration' for every axis and refuses arm power ('arm power enable request refused: cabinet working mode is remote or invalid') — the controller cannot identify the arm at all. This is one of the faults our repair team handles on Staubli CS8 / CS9 (VAL3) systems — the cause is usually identifiable within the first on-site inspection.
Most common causes
- Corrupt or missing arm.cfx configuration file in usr/configs
- Missing or corrupt system.zfx in the sys partition
- Failed restore after a CF card change
- Controller/arm pairing lost
Step-by-step field fix
- Connect to the controller filesystem via FTP
- Upload a correct arm.cfx (from the original CD or backup) into usr/configuration
- Verify the arm.cfx header contains the correct order number and arm type
- Restart the CS8 — the drive errors should disappear and the hand symbol follow the WMS mode selector
- If system.zfx is corrupted, contact Staubli support for the matching system file
