Communication alarms: 14 alarm codes

Communication alarms start at the physical layer by default: oxidised connectors, unconnected shielding, broken cores in the drag chain, missing termination resistors. A multeter and your eyes find most of these, and they are the most common cause. Only then do we check node IDs, baud rates and data mapping. This page lists every communication code and the layered method.

How we approach this family on site

The data link: fieldbus, Ethernet, cabinet-to-body communication and external device interfaces physical layer (cable / connector / shield) -> link layer (protocol / baud / node ID) -> application layer (data mapping / handshakes)

Inspection line: start at the physical layer: connectors, cable, shielding and termination resistors - most field communication faults live there

Spares we carry: we carry common bus cables, connectors, termination resistors and shield terminals
